After nearly a year of planning, paperwork and preparation, the Delaware County District Library (DCDL) has Friends. In January, the Board of Directors of the Friends of the DCDL filed articles of incorporation and the organization was recognized as a legal entity by the State of Ohio. The group was formed in order to focus public attention on the DCDL’s services and needs, to advocate for the library and its mission, to raise funds to support its services and programs and to provide volunteer support. “We plan to conduct book sales, host author appearances and schedule other events in an effort to promote the invaluable resource that the DCDL represents,” said Carolyn Flahive, president of the Friends Board of Directors. “The formation of the Friends of the Delaware County District Library is truly an exciting and nearly momentous event for our community, and I couldn't be more pleased,” said Mary Jane Santos, Director of the DCDL. “Having a vibrant and active auxiliary group supporting the Library's services and programs is critically important to us, and such a group has been sorely missed. I look forward to working with the Friends of the Library, and I would encourage everyone who has an interest in the Delaware County District Library to take this opportunity to get involved with this fine group, as well.” The Friends are currently soliciting the support and involvement of the community through individual memberships and business sponsorships. Friends membership is available at a number of tax-deductible levels; for more information, contact Hillary Kline at 740-368-9647. In addition to Flahive and Kline, the Friends Board of Directors includes vice president Margaret Brook, treasurer Tom Ferguson, secretary Stella Dickman, Penelope Mong, David Powell, Karen Stoner and Maryann Sweeney.
