Virtual Cheese Board

Learn to create a beautiful and delicious cheese board and share your creation in an interactive Zoom cheese tasting!

Prep before the Zoom meeting - let's build a cheese board to show off to our new virtual cheese friends! (Watch the video below to see Mandy's journey to The Greater Gouda in downtown Delaware to ask Chef Josh for his help!)

1.  Find the board.  You can use anything you want (slate and wood are traditional, but it can be anything you like!).

2.  Add 3 types of cheese.  Try to get a variety of cheeses, cheese boards often have a soft, firm, and hard or aged cheese.  Flavored cheeses (smoked, herbed, wine-soaked) would also work great.  It's sometimes fun to add a cheese that you know you like and then pick a few others that you haven't tried before.  The quantity is flexible for each cheese, more expensive cheeses could be a much smaller amount.  If you selected a harder cheese, slice it and arrange it on your board.  If you have a softer cheese, grab some type of knife to help spread it.

3.  Add something sweet to your cheese board.  Common options are fruit (fresh or dried), jam, or candied nuts.

4.  Add something savory/acidic to your cheese board.  Pickles, olives, salted nuts, and mustards all work great.

5.  Finally, add some optional fancy extras if you want.  Cheese boards often include some type of cracker or bread.  Some also include meat (salami, prosciutto, etc).  Feeling fancy and want to add a garnish?  Herbs, sliced citrus, and edible flowers are all great.  Finally, drink pairings can be fun and could be alcoholic (beer/wine/cocktail) or not (tea/coffee/something sparkling).

Well, look at your gorgeous board!  Try not to dig in before you show it off at the online tasting on November 4th!
