Summer Reading Club

Summer Reading Club 2020: Imagine Your Story

At the Delaware County District Library, all are welcome to participate in the Summer Reading Club. Children ages 0-17 are encouraged to read 12 hours throughout the summer, collecting prizes once they reach six- and 12-hour benchmarks. Adults are encouraged to read books or attend library programs. Any combination of four books read or programs attended will earn participants a prize.

Tracking

While you usually would pick up your reading log from a local branch, this year we’ve made it available in our summer “Check it Out” newsletter and for download below.

Kids, no matter how you read, just keep track of every 15 minutes, or write it down on a piece of paper. Be creative and track however “you imagine” this summer. You may be on summer break but reading 15 minutes a day will keep your reading skills sharp and make going back to school easier.

Dates

Programs and virtual gatherings will take place between June 1 – July 24. Be sure to check our Events page for events created for the age groups and interests in your household.

Prizes will be available for pickup as branches reopen their doors for Walkthrough Browsing.

Prizes

This year, our young readers will have their choice between two “Imagine Your Story” notebook designs in a variety of colors, stuffed with local coupons, for their six-hour prize. Readers finishing 12-hours will earn a book of their choice to keep. Limit one six-hour and 12-hour prize per reader, please.

Adults finishing their reading/program challenge will earn a glass water bottle in a protective silicone case.

Claim your prizes soon! As we begin to reopen our branches for Walkthrough Browsing, we will enable a way for readers to pick-up prizes both inside your branch or through Curbside or Drive-Thru pickup. This means you can get your prize as early as June 29 at our Delaware Main Library location!

Programs

While programs may look a little different this year, the Delaware County District Library is still committed to providing the same high-quality, educational entertainment this year as we do every summer.

Almost all programs will be provided virtually, which will mean that participants (or their parents) should register in advance in order to get the proper link/website/code for the program. Our performers will be using everything from Zoom and GoTo Meeting to Facebook Live for their presentations. We will keep you up to date with what you need to know on our Events page.
