Honoring Dr. King's Legacy
Closed for MLK Jr. Day
In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, all DCDL locations will be closed on Monday, January 19. The library will reopen with regular hours on Tuesday, January 20.
If you will be in Delaware, you may be interested in attending Delaware County’s 33rd annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at Ohio Wesleyan University. This year’s celebration will feature keynote speaker Dr. Sierra Austin-King, an assistant professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and Black Studies, with teaching and research experiences at The Ohio State and Denison universities, as well as the Ohio Reformatory for Women. The theme of Delaware’s 2026 MLK celebration is “The Lantern Keepers: Preserving the Flame of Justice.”
The Jan. 19 community celebration also will include a “wax museum” in Ohio Wesleyan’s Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, with students portraying historical figures.
Tickets to the luncheon are on sale through January 9. Program proceeds will continue to benefit the Delaware County Martin Luther King Scholarship Program.
If you are unable to attend but would like to learn more about Dr. King’s life and legacy, please check out our Library’s collection of books and films, Hoopla’s collection of instant eBooks, or stream films and documentaries about Dr. King on Kanopy.
