Wear blue on March 5!
Development Disabilities Awareness Month
March is National Development Disabilities Awareness Month! 2025’s theme, We’re Here All Year, emphasizes that community, accessibility, and opportunities for people with developmental disabilities should be recognized and championed every day.
Established in 1987 by President Ronald Reagan, Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month highlights the importance of fostering a society where people with disabilities are empowered to contribute to their communities. While March provides an opportunity for heightened awareness, true awareness happens when we commit to creating accessible environments and productive opportunities year-round.
Every March, the Delaware County Board of Developmental Disabilities (DCBDD) and partners throughout Delaware County (including your DCDL!) collaborate to celebrate Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. We hope you’ll join us as we honor and celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of individuals with developmental disabilities while fostering an environment where everyone can thrive.
This curated recommended reads list includes great books for both kids and adults that help spotlight the barriers that those with disabilities face. You can also check out some of the events planned around Central Ohio for Development Disabilities Awareness Month; DCBDD has even more on their website!
