March is National Reading Month

March was originally designated as National Reading Month in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday (March 2, 1904). All month long, we’re celebrating the importance of, and the joy that can be found in, READING!

National Reading Month offers a great opportunity to foster a love of books and emphasize that reading is one of the best habits to develop, both for adults and children. Even with just a few minutes a day, reading can help strengthen your memory and develop critical thinking skills. When we read, we gain a better understanding of the world around us, developing empathy, expanding our knowledge, and engaging our imagination.

This month, why not set a new reading goal? Place a hold on a new arrival or check out an ebook from Libby or Hoopla. If you enjoy discussing books with others, check out one of our Book Clubs — we offer them for every age, from children to adults. Bring your little ones to one of our Storytimes to help foster a lifelong love for reading at a young age. It’s one of the healthiest habits you can cultivate!

We hope you’ll join us this National Reading Month and enjoy some great books!

We open doors to imagination, knowledge, connection, and discovery.
