Maintenance & Repairs

Powell Library Temporary Closure

Due to the need for maintenance and repairs to the restrooms and the floor of the building, the Powell Branch Library at 460 South Liberty St. will temporarily close to the public from October 28 through December 2, 2024.

Saturday, October 26 will be the last day to pick up holds at Powell Branch Library. Any holds not checked out will return to the shelf.

Please update your holds pick-up location to an alternate DCDL branch, and remember that during the closure, absolutely no items may be returned to the Powell Library. As always, our patrons are also invited to visit another of our four Delaware County District Library locations or take advantage of our digital offerings.

FAQ:

  • What’s happening at Powell?
    • All three restrooms in the building (two public and one staff) will have plumbing and floor repairs. Drains and plumbing will be accessed in their current locations, which are behind walls and under floors. Additionally, a floor slab in the building will be leveled to account for settling that has happened over time.
  • What dates will the branch be closed?
    • The last day patrons may be in the building will be Saturday, October 26. The branch will remain closed from October 27 through December 2, and will begin operating on regular business hours again on Tuesday, December 3. Patrons will be notified if work is completed early and the branch is ready to open prior to December 3.
  • Is the Powell branch closing permanently?
    • No. This temporary closure is required because of the disruption that maintenance on plumbing, pipes, drains, and floors would cause to the branch’s daily activities.
  • What are the Powell staff members doing during this time?
    • Powell branch associates will be working at other branches of the DCDL system.
  • The Powell Branch is my designated pick-up location. How do I change that?
    • Check your My Account page and change your “Holds and Pickup Locations” to send materials to another preferred branch.
My Account > My Settings > Account Preferences > Holds and Pickup Location
  • What if I want to wait to pick up my holds at Powell when it reopens?
    • Patrons may choose to simply pause their holds until the branch reopens. This saves your spot in line and you continue progressing in the queue. When materials are reactivated, they’ll be delivered as usual when they are available.
  • Can I return my items to Powell while it is closed?
    • No. Please direct any returns to any other DCDL system branches, including Liberty, Orange, Delaware and Ostrander. Both Orange and Liberty locations also have convenient drive-thru pick-up and drop-off options.
  • Who should I contact if I have a library-related question?
    • All DCDL staff are ready to help you during this time. Email AskUs@delawarelibrary.org or call the Delaware Branch Library at 740-362-3861 for immediate assistance.
