LIBRARY CANCELS DRAG 101 DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS

Delaware, OH: -- The following statement was given this morning at a press conference by Delaware County District Library Director George Needham: 

The Delaware County District Library planned a program for teens titled “Drag 101.” The program has been canceled.  The program had been scheduled for June 5th at 2:00 pm here at the Orange Branch Library. This program featured local drag performer Selena T. West to demonstrate the art of creating a character, costuming, and applying makeup.

The Delaware County District Library (DCDL) Board of Trustees have announced that tonight’s board meeting will move from the Ostrander Branch Library to the Scioto Township Hall, located at 3737 Ostrander Road, Ostrander, OH 43061. The meeting will begin at 5 p.m.

Summer is by far the busiest time of year at the Delaware County District Library. Why? Because from May 31 through July 28 we host our annual Summer Reading Club! This year's theme is "A Universe of Stories." We will blast off into space and explore the science of our solar system, while we also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing!

You do not have to look far to see traces of the past in Delaware County. Local artist Linda Wesner continues her search for landscapes threatened by new development.

“Since I moved here in 2003,” she says, “so many farms and fields have disappeared. I never leave home without my camera so I can take reference photos for future artwork.”

Due to a Level 2 snow emergency being declared, all Delaware County District Library locations will be closed for the entirety of the day, Friday, Feb. 1. Locations include branches in Delaware, Ostrander, Orange Township and Powell.

MONDAY UPDATE: As the snow emergency has been downgraded to a Level 1, the Library will be open on Monday, January 21. 

SUNDAY: Due to a Level 3 snow emergency being declared, all Delaware County District Library locations will be closed for the entirety of the day, Sunday, Jan. 20. Locations include branches in Delaware, Ostrander, Orange Township and Powell.

The Orange Branch Library is seeking adults willing to participate and share their stories as human “books” for the second annual Human Library event. Our hope is that open and honest conversation will allow for those involved to have a deeper understanding of others within our shared community.
