Explore Reading This Summer!

Summer Reading Club 2023

Howdy, campers! The unofficial kick-off to summer begins May 30 with the Delaware County District Library’s 2023 Summer Reading Club, “Camp DCDL.” The annual reading program will run through August 12 for all ages, infant through adult!

Did you know that reading just 15-minutes a day helps kids maintain and build the literacy skills learned over the school year and reduces “summer slide?” It’s true! And your library is here to help make reading fun all summer long.

Youth readers ages 0 – 17 are challenged to read 12 hours over the summer and will earn prizes at the 6- and 12-hour milestones. Included in the six-hour prize will be a collection of coupons and giveaways provided by local businesses around Delaware County and Central Ohio, along with a cool flashlight keychain, perfect for summer camping adventures! Once they’ve read 12 hours, youth are invited to choose a book to keep; books are provided through the generosity of the Friends of the Delaware County District Library.

Adults are encouraged to read books or attend library programs. Any combination of four books read or programs attended will earn participants a prize. Adults who turn in at least one completed Summer Reading Club bookmark will be entered into a prize drawing; more prize details are coming soon.

Visit our Summer Reading Club website for the week’s programs as well as information on our very special events, including:

  • The annual Medieval Faire: join us for a joust, Viking adventures, Sherwood Forest, and more! Come to Ostrander for all the fun on Saturday, June 17 from 11 am – 3 pm.
  • Learn to play Loog Guitar! The Loog Guitar is a simple 3-stringed instrument that encourages the exploration of music with hands-on experiences. This class is for children 6-8 years old; Loog guitars are provided, and pre-registration is required.
  • Explore the great outdoors at Alum Creek State Park. DCDL librarians and State Park Naturalists will join forces for fun outdoor programs; on Thursday, July 13 @ 5:30 pm, explore water-dwelling creatures, and on Thursday, August 10 @ 2 pm, learn about Ohio reptiles!

We can’t wait to welcome you to Camp DCDL! Get excited — adventure awaits!
