Youth Club
Kids ages 0-17 are encouraged to read 12 hours throughout the summer, collecting prizes once they reach 6- and 12-hour benchmarks.
Tracking
Pick up your reading log from your local library branch, from in our summer “Check it Out” newsletter or download below. Whether you like books, magazines, comics, eBooks, audiobooks, or being read to by a family member or a friend, remember that it all counts toward your summer reading total!
No matter how you read, keep track of every 15 minutes. You can log it on your DCDL Summer Reading tracking sheet, or simply write it down on a piece of paper. You may be on summer break, but reading 15 minutes a day will keep your reading skills sharp and make going back to school easier.

Special Events
This summer, we’ll kick-off and end our summer with two very special programs – a trip back in time at our Medieval Faire, an opportunity to step inside a whale, and a visit with musican Sogbety Diomande!
Medieval Faire
Saturday, June 4, 2022, 11 AM – 3 PM | Ostrander Branch Library
Step into a world of history and fantasy at our annual Medieval Faire — back in person this year!
Horses, jousting games, traditional craftsmen, and a Medieval marketplace await you at this year’s Medieval Faire. New this year, visit a mermaid’s grotto, a dragon’s lair and Sherwood Forest!
Enjoy crafts and games for all ages, as well as music throughout the event. Costumes are encouraged, so come in your medieval garb and join the fun!
Whalemobile!
Thursday, June 16 from 10 AM to Noon | Willis Education Center
Learn more about whales while exploring the inside of a 43′ long, life-sized, inflatable, humpback whale! Register in advance for each child age 5 and older in one of four half-hour time slots. Advance registration is required to go inside the whale!
The Whalemobile is based on Nile, an adult female humpback whale that lives in the North Atlantic (NA). Nile was born in 1987 and spends much of every summer feeding off the coast of MA. She has had 6 calves in the past and is due for a calf this year. Join us to learn about how humans and whales are similar and find out if, in fact, Nile is a new mom this year!
There will be activities for families and younger kids.
West African Experience with Sogbety
Friday, June 24 @ 2 PM | Orange Branch Library AND
Wednesday, July 6, 2022 @ 6:30 PM | Delaware Main Library Community Room
Bring the whole family to experience the rhythms, dances, and songs of West Africa in a high-energy performance with Sogbety Diomande! Diomande was born in a small farming community in the Northwest region of the Ivory Coast in Africa. He has toured with Ballet National de Cote d’Ivoire; been a member of Kotchegna Dance Company, Mask Dance Company, and has been featured with many troupes in NYC and around the US.
For most of 2001, Sogbety was a resident artist at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. There he performed at Harambe African Village with Kobake, an impressive Ivoirenne quartet. Sogbety started his own troupe in 2005. He started his own festival in 2006 called Sogbety Diomande’s West African Celebration where he brings master drummers and dancers together in rural Ohio to teach and perform at his 3-day drum and dance camp.
